Eggway: Arrow Puzzle

The short version

Eggway has no accounts, no sign-in, no email address and no advertising. There is no third-party analytics SDK and no advertising SDK anywhere in the app. Photographs you give it are processed on your device and are never uploaded. The only thing that reaches our server is an anonymous identifier and your puzzle scores, and only so your progress survives a new phone and so leaderboards can exist.

The anonymous device identifier

On first launch the app generates a random identifier and stores it in the iOS Keychain. It is not your Apple ID, your advertising identifier, your phone number or anything else that identifies you as a person. It exists so the server can tell one save file from another.

It lives in the Keychain rather than in ordinary storage so it survives deleting and reinstalling the app, which is what makes it possible to get your stars back. Alongside it we send your device model, iOS version, app version, locale and time zone, so we can tell which devices are having a bad time and which languages to translate into.

What progress data is stored

Every one of these is written to your device first. The server copy is a backup and the source of the leaderboards. If you never have a network connection, the game is complete and nothing is ever sent.

Camera and photo library

The app asks for the camera or your photo library in exactly one place: the Egg Workshop. It reads the dominant colours out of the picture you choose and paints them onto your eggshell.

The image never leaves your device. It is cropped and colour-sampled entirely on the phone, and the result is stored inside the app's own private container. We do not upload it, we do not have a copy, and we could not retrieve it if we wanted to. The only thing that syncs is a short text reference such as eggshell.jpg, which is meaningless anywhere except on your own phone.

We only ask at the moment you tap Camera or Library, never on launch, and always after an explainer sheet telling you exactly what will happen. If you decline, everything else in the app keeps working and you can change your mind later in iOS Settings.

Notifications

If you switch reminders on, iOS gives the app a push token which we store so the daily reminder can reach you. There are three notifications in total: the daily puzzle reminder at an hour you choose, a cheer when you clear your detour debt, and a gentle nudge if your egg has been stuck for three days. You will never get more than one in a day, and switching them off in Settings cancels every scheduled one immediately.

We never ask for notification permission before you have finished the first world, so the request lands when you actually have a reason to care.

Writing to us

The support page on this website carries a form. What you type into it — your email address, your message, and optionally your name and which device you are on — is sent to our server so that we can answer you. It is used for that and nothing else: never for marketing, never attached to your game record, never passed to anyone else. Support correspondence is kept for twelve months and then deleted.

This is part of the website, not the game. The app itself never asks for your email address, and you can write to the address at the bottom of this page instead if you would rather not use the form.

What we do not collect

Data retention

Progress records are kept while the identifier is in use and for twenty-four months after the last time the app contacted the server, after which the whole row is deleted. Daily puzzle results are kept for ninety days so the leaderboards have a history, then removed. Server request logs are kept for thirty days and contain a request identifier, the path and a timing, not the contents.

Deleting your data

Settings contains Reset all progress, which erases everything on the device: every star, every ghost, your debt and any eggshell you made. To have the server-side copy deleted as well, email the address below with the words “delete my data”. You do not need to prove who you are because there is nothing personal attached to the record, but you will need to send it from the device so the app can include your identifier. We action deletion requests within thirty days.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your data, and to object to processing. The lawful basis for the small amount of processing we do is legitimate interest: keeping your save file safe across devices and running the leaderboards you chose to take part in. Our processing does not include profiling or automated decision-making. Contact us at the address below to exercise any of these rights, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

Your rights under the CCPA and CPRA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have. There is no financial incentive programme, so there is nothing to be discriminated against for. Exercise any of these rights at the address below.

Children's privacy

Eggway is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under thirteen. There is no chat, no user-generated text visible to others except a display name you choose, and no way for players to contact one another. If you believe a child has supplied information that identifies them, in a display name for example, write to us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the app will show the new version before it syncs anything again. The date below always reflects the current version.
